Why you must have a daily self care routine

Having a daily self-care routine is beneficial for several reasons:

  1. Stress Management: A well-structured routine can help manage stress by incorporating activities that promote relaxation and mindfulness. This, in turn, reduces the negative impact of stress on both physical and mental well-being.
  2. Physical Health: Regular self-care practices, such as exercise, healthy eating, and sufficient sleep, contribute to better physical health. They enhance energy levels, strengthen the immune system, and reduce the risk of various health issues.
  3. Prevention of Burnout: Daily self-care helps prevent burnout, especially for individuals with demanding jobs or responsibilities. Taking time for oneself ensures a balance between work and personal life, reducing the risk of exhaustion and fatigue.

Everyday Self-Care Schedule

For ease of implementation, I have divided this daily self-care routine into different parts of the day. And did not include any time as self-care is all about doing the right things for yourself at a time that best suits you. You need not wake up at 5 am, you can wake up at any time of the day that suits your work and life needs. I wake up at 5 am because my work and life need that if you want to know my routine details you can read My 5 am Morning Routine.

Morning Self-Care Routine

Wake up at the same time

Establishing a consistent wake-up time helps regulate your body’s internal clock, enhancing overall sleep quality and making mornings less hectic. Avoid hitting the snooze button. Avoid looking at your phone first thing in the morning. It will waste your time, distract you and most importantly you will lose your clear mind in the morning.

Get Hydrated

Begin your day by rehydrating your body. While sipping water feel the morning light, the feeling of starting a fresh day. Want to go fancy add some flavour like a lime slice to water. You can also keep a glass of water by your bedside ensures you start your morning feeling refreshed and promotes better digestion.

Practice mindful breathing or meditation

Dedicate a few minutes to mindfulness exercises. Deep breathing or meditation can help reduce stress, improve focus, and cultivate a positive mindset for the day ahead. Just simple deep breathing with closed eyes is enough and can be done by beginners too. You can also try guided meditation. I like to you use Headspace for it.

Eat healthy breakfast

Prioritize a nutritious breakfast that includes a mix of macronutrients – proteins, whole grains, and fruits or vegetables. This provides sustained energy throughout the morning. Try to have a balanced breakfast that includes fresh-colored fruits and vegetables for that dose of antioxidants.

Exercise

Incorporate a brief workout to jumpstart your metabolism and boost your mood. Whether it’s a quick jog, yoga, or a home workout routine, it sets a positive tone for the day. I don’t find enough time to do different exercises so I alternate them between different days, such as yoga on Monday, jogging on Tuesday, HIITS on Wednesday, etc.

After this, you can be off to work, school, or college as per your schedule.

During Day Self Care Routine

Take regular breaks

Taking regular breaks throughout the day is an essential practice that I’ve come to recognize as a game-changer in maintaining focus and productivity. Integrate short breaks into your workday to stretch and move. This prevents stiffness, improves circulation, and enhances mental clarity. This practice not only helps prevent burnout but also enhances overall well-being, ensuring that I approach tasks with renewed energy and a clearer perspective.

Stay hydrated

Maintaining hydration throughout the day has become a cornerstone of my daily self-care routine. I forget to drink water during work. I have made it a point to keep a water bottle within arm’s reach, serving as a constant reminder to stay hydrated. Adequate water intake not only supports bodily functions but also enhances concentration and alertness. It’s a small but impactful commitment to self-care that I prioritize, recognizing that a well-hydrated body is the foundation for sustained energy and overall health.

Grab healthy snacks

Incorporating healthy snacks into my day serves as a proactive step toward maintaining my physical well-being, preventing energy slumps, and supporting my overall nutritional balance. Choose nutritious snacks like nuts, fruits, or yogurt. These keep your energy stable between meals and provide essential vitamins and minerals.

Have mindful moments

Practice mindfulness during work hours. Brief moments of focused attention or mindful breathing can help manage stress and improve concentration. Amidst the deadlines and constant demands, taking intentional breaks to center myself is valuable. These moments of mindfulness could be as simple as closing my eyes, taking a few deep breaths, or briefly focusing on the present moment. Such pauses serve as a reset button, allowing me to approach tasks with greater clarity and a calmer mindset.

You can practice these simple things to take care of yourself during work at the office or between lectures at college or school. I have a detailed post of 10 self-care at work tips for your wellness at the workplace.
